Stay Safe While Searching For Property

Searching for a home should feel exciting, not risky. This guide shows you how to search, view, book and pay safely on MN Luxe Home — so you can move into your next place with total confidence.

Avoiding scams

Property scams in Nigeria almost always follow the same patterns. Learn to spot them and a fraudster loses their power instantly.

Never pay to view

No legitimate agent charges an 'inspection fee' or refundable 'viewing deposit' before you see a home. Real payment comes only after you have inspected the property in person.

Reject off-platform transfers

Requests to send money to a personal bank account 'to avoid platform charges' are the number-one scam. Keep every payment on MN Luxe Home where it is traceable and protected.

Watch for stolen photos

Glossy photos with a price far below the market are bait. Reverse-image-search suspicious pictures and trust the verification badge over how nice the gallery looks.

Resist pressure tactics

'Three other people are paying today' is manufactured urgency. A genuine listing will still be there after you have done your checks — never rush a transfer because someone is hurrying you.

Spot fake 'support' emails

We will never email or WhatsApp you asking for your password, OTP or a transfer to a 'verification account'. Check the sender address and only act on messages inside the platform.

If it feels off, pause

Mismatched names, a brand-new account, or an agent who refuses a video call or in-person viewing are all reasons to stop. Use the Report listing button and let our team investigate.

Viewing safety tips

Inspections are where most deals are won — and where you should take a few simple precautions. Treat every first viewing like a first meeting with a stranger.

  • Meet in daylight

Schedule viewings during the day and at the property's real address — never a car park, filling station or 'meet me halfway' spot.

  • Bring someone along

Take a friend or family member to inspections. There is safety in numbers, and a second opinion on the property helps too.

  • Share your live location

Send your live location to someone you trust and tell them the agent's name and when you expect to be done.

  • Verify the badge and identity

Confirm the agent matches their verified MN Luxe Home profile name and photo. Ask for ID if anything feels inconsistent.

  • Inspect before you commit

Check water, power, plumbing and the actual condition of the unit. Confirm the address and unit number match the listing exactly.

  • Never pay on the spot under pressure

Take time to decide. If you choose to proceed, pay through the platform — not cash handed over at the gate.

Online safety

Your account is the key to your bookings, messages and payment history. Protect it the same way you would protect your bank app.

Never share OTP, 2FA or passwords

No genuine staff member or agent will ever ask for your one-time code, two-factor token or password. Anyone who does is trying to take over your account — refuse and report.

Keep chats on-platform

In-app messages are logged and reviewable by our Trust & Safety team. Moving to a personal WhatsApp or email removes that protection and is a favourite move of scammers.

Recognise phishing

Beware links urging you to 'confirm your account' or 'release your refund'. Check the web address is mnluxehome.com, and when in doubt navigate to the site yourself instead of tapping the link.

Payment safety

How you pay decides whether you are protected. Paying through MN Luxe Home keeps a record, enables refunds and keeps fraudsters out of your wallet.

Pay through the platform

Use the in-app checkout, secured by Paystack. Card and bank payments processed here are tracked end to end and tied to your booking.

No personal-account transfers

Never send rent, caution fees or booking money to an individual's personal account. If an agent insists on it, walk away and report them.

Keep every receipt

Save your in-app payment confirmations and reference numbers. They are your proof if you ever need to raise a dispute or request a refund.

Understand refunds first

Before you pay, read the cancellation and refund terms on the listing so you know exactly what is recoverable and when.

Short-let safety

Booking a short stay is fast — a few checks before and after check-in protect both guests and hosts and keep your trip stress-free.

Confirm it matches the photos

On arrival, check that the apartment, location and amenities match the listing. If the place is materially different, document it before you settle in.

Read house rules and cancellation policy

Know the check-in and check-out times, guest limits, security-deposit terms and the cancellation policy before you pay — not after.

Report issues within 24 hours

Raise any problem — cleanliness, safety, a mismatch — through the platform within 24 hours so it is on record while it can still be resolved or refunded.

Document check-in and check-out

Take date-stamped photos of the unit when you arrive and when you leave. It protects you against unfair damage claims and protects hosts too.

Reporting suspicious activity

If something feels wrong, say something. Reporting takes seconds and helps protect the next person searching after you.

Use the Report listing button

Every listing has a Report listing option. Tap it to flag a suspicious price, stolen photos, an off-platform payment request or anything else that feels unsafe. Your report is anonymous to the agent.

Trust & Safety reviews it

Reports go to our Trust & Safety team, who weigh them against the account's risk score and history. We can hide the listing, suspend the account or escalate — usually within hours.

Emergency assistance

Your safety comes before any property. If you are ever in immediate danger — during a viewing or anywhere else — leave the situation and contact the emergency services first.

Nigeria Police emergency: 112

112 is the national emergency line, reachable across Nigeria.

Please note: MN Luxe Home is an online marketplace and cannot dispatch police, medical or other emergency services. Always call the emergency line first, then tell us so we can investigate the listing or account involved.

Frequently asked questions

Is it ever normal to pay a deposit just to view a property?

No. On MN Luxe Home you never pay to inspect a home. Verified agents arrange viewings at no charge, and any payment only happens after you have seen the property and decided to rent, buy or book. Anyone demanding a 'viewing fee', 'inspection deposit' or 'agreement fee' before you set foot inside is a red flag — stop and report the listing.

How do I know an agent is really verified?

Verified agents and agencies carry a verification badge on their profile and on every listing they publish. Tap the badge to see what was checked. Before a viewing, confirm the person you meet matches the verified profile name and photo, and never deal with someone who asks you to move the conversation and payment to a personal account 'to save fees'.

What happens after I report a listing?

Reports go straight to our Trust & Safety team. We review the listing, the agent's history and the account's risk score, and we can hide the listing, suspend the account or escalate within hours. Reporting is anonymous to the agent, so you can flag anything suspicious without worry.

Can MN Luxe Home send help if I feel unsafe during a viewing?

No — we are a marketplace, not an emergency service, and we cannot dispatch police or medical help. If you are ever in immediate danger, leave and call the Nigeria Police emergency line on 112 first. Tell us afterwards so we can investigate the agent or listing involved.
